Default High Water

Got out shore fishing at dawn on the 23rd. Tried places that are sometimes good in high water in spring, along walls, eddies, behind logs, in flooded grass, etc. Tried cranks over shoals too. Water was extremely high, with most of the walls under water. Was surprised that none of the sheltered places were holding SM. I was sure that they would be concentrated in such spots. I guess that the water is warm enough so that they will fight the current and they are spread out in all the new habitat, or else they are just not feeding. Got a couple of dinks on a 2 inch Senko and split shot, but that was all. As mentioned elsewhere, the mosquitos were fierce.

The last couple times I was out, they were in or around the current. I'm with you, though, I only caught a few real small ones. High water this late in the year doesn't happen very often...kinda hard to pattern them.

I stopped at the Elgin dam today just to take a look.
Walton island (the downriver side) is still mostly underwater.
The bike path under Chicago and Highland streets is still underwater too.
If someone knows where the flag is at the front of the island the water is just a couple feet from the base of it.
Although the river has gone done a bit, it's still rediculously high.
