Default Heritage Quarries (Lemont)

Fished the 3rd quarry down - PalosBob was already there when I arrived and had already caught 15 or so gills pretty quickly. 2 gents were leaving and had caught some small gills. 2 other guys were out there with some tip ups, along with poles. They were hoping to get some crappie but had none. They also had caught a few smaller gills. The ones Palos and I caught were from 4 to a tad over 6''. Not the greatest size but numbers were good - Palos had at least 60 - 70 gills, almost all out of one hole. 10 FOW seemed the ideal depth, just off the bottom on spikes. Ice was a good 4'', but once you got further away from the shoreline is started getting down to around 2''. If you venture out, definitely bring a spud with you.

I was surprised on how few people were fishing the quarries. The 2nd quarry down had two anglers which Palos talked to on the way in. Nothing but dinks. First quarry (the huge one) wasn't safe.

I was there last weekend did OK on the Crappies average size was 10"

The big quarry was mostly open water with a goose hunters dream about 5000 birds there

I plan on fishing these quarries more.I think they have great potential of having some huge fish in them.Just dont eat them I hear, ton of toxic waste in there.

I didn't target the bass. The guys with the tip-ups had no action. Still hard to believe how so few anglers on a decent ice fishing day.

The smaller size gills:

'Twins' on the 'larger' size. Caught my Palos and I at the same time.

Thanks for the report OZ...that's a neat little area over there in such an urban setting. Glad to see ya found some gill action.
