Default Lake Marie White Bass - Channel Lake Bluegill 1/5/09

My dad and I hit Lake Marie this morning for some white bass at 7:00am. Fished in 20-25' depth. Bite was really slow except for a few guys who hit the lucky spot. Used a Gold swedish pimple tipped with spikes. Got 6 nice bites and connected on 5. Got one about 12" and the rest were on the small side. After watching everyone last week and then a few guys today utilize the Vexilar, I guess its time to throw down some cash and make the investment. Its really awesome watching the fish come up and hit the lure on the graph. Ice was 7-8" thick. I left at 12:30 and the thick slush was beginning to form in the 40 degree temperature. My dad got the big I gave him a little bit of **** for that especially after missing 2 nice bites where I watched the fish jerk his rod down.

Lunch: Thirsty Turtle - Burger, Fries, and Drink.... Great Burgers

Paid my $5 parking fee and we decided to fish for some gills behind the the bar. Guys out there were killing the fish today. Ice was also about 6-7" thick. Lots of slush and standing water on top of ice. My dad and I got on the ice at about 2:00 and the bite was still going strong. Used 2lb line with a pink jig tipped with Waxies. Fished on 4' of water. The fish were really high of the bottom. The key was starting about 6" of the bottom and jigging it up to 12-18" off bottom. Once I felt the fish hit I dropped the rod to let the line slack and take the jig then set the hook. Gills were all nice sized. Dad redeemed himself from his poor morning performance with a few nice 8-9".

The fish really turned on before dark. Went home with about 40 nice gills and a 10" crappie. Threw some nice ones back. I think ice will be good tomorrow but boss won't give me clearance so good luck if you go out tomorrow. Bring some tall rubber boots.

Nice job cokeman

I also did great on the gills today on Channel Lk. kept just enough for nice dinner the key was to bulk up on bait.I was putting 5 spikes on a yellow LA optic jig and the little guys rarely took it.The bite was on fire from 12-1:30ish

The whites on Marie were very tight lipped didn't waste too much time there.

Also,It was **** rideing the snow machine at the end of the day.To much slush and water ATV would be a better rider.

Was out on Catherine. 18 inch walleye, a few crappie and some nice gills. Walleye and crappie caught on minnow in about 12 feet weedbed. Gills caught on jig and waxie in about 5-6 feet of thick weeds.

I used a larger ice fishing jig and loaded it up with spikes. That seemed to keep the smaller fish away. Seabass, I think that was the key to better fish.

Is there access to Lake Catherine or do you have to access channel lake and take a ride on a sled or ATV. I spoke to a guy going out of by the Thirsty turtle on a sled and he said the fishing on catherine was excellent. I wanted to give that a try because I never been there before.

Extended forecast calls for a heat wave and rain until Wednesday and then the cold stuff comes back at the end of the week. Good luck if you make it out today. I don't think we'll have safe ice for awhile.....

I think the best way to get on cathy is by Sled or ATV.That part of the lake is mostly surouned by houses but there is one small marina (I think) on the north end.Otherwise its not to bad of a walk from the thristy turtule.

Good luck and tight lines

Access to Catherine is through Bob's Marina. However, they limit parking to people and friends of the people who have a boat stored for the winter. Or at least try to limit it.

Went out on Lake Marie on the 5th around 10:30. Set up by the town of tents. It was my first time there. I had a aqua view and seen non stop fish all day. Tons of white bass and drum. Fished for 3 hours and ended up with nothing. The schools just kept swimming by my lures. I tryed swedish pimples tipped with spikes and minnows. The only thing that got there attention was a jigging rapala. Was fun to get out wish I would of caught some.
