Bangs Lake planned tomorrow 2/9
Hey guys,
I am taking 2 friends fishing on Bangs Lake tomorrow. One lives on the lake (has lake rights) but none of us has ever ice/fished it before. Are there special lake fishing permits required? Also what would be a good start (location, tactics) to catch some fish so that the 2 guys with me have a good time. I have all the equipment but could use some information. Its always fun to share the sport with new people. I just want make sure they catch something. I do not use tip ups though, if anyone gives tip up advice.
Thank!!!

I have only ice fished the lake a few times like 2 years ago. Had decent luck in from of Lindys Landing around the weed line. Also over by Wauconda boat was pretty good. Remember stay active and you will find them eventually. Sorry can't give you much more advice than that but I haven't been there in a while.

The action really picks up at Bangs a couple hours before dark and 1 hour after dark for the gills, crops, and perch. If you are chasing eyes I recommended after 10pm. I use to fish Bangs alot when i started ice fishing until I discovered the Chain. Never had much luck in the early AM on Bangs but when dust starts to settle in the fishing starts to pick up real good.

Here's my report from Bangs 2/9
Fished the south side of the lake, just east of the marina/bay out from the new townhomes. We only caught a few small stragler perch in 15 ft water on waxies. We moved a few times checking different depths (17, 15, 13) on the drop. Couldn't entice much nor see much action off of the bottom on the vex. Didn't get to talk to anyone else on the other parts of the lake, hopefully they did better. May be I was just in completely wrong place.

Fished from noon until around 630pm. I honestly think I was fishing the wrong part of the lake maybe or nothing was active. Hard to tell w/out an aquaview. Ill probably try again on a different part of the lake. Maybe even just set up by the popular spots.

Try the NE part of the lake. There are usually 2-3 permitnett shanties out there that you cant miss. There are fish in the south end but you have to keep on drilling holes until you find a weed edge or a pocket. A underwater camera would help alot in finding the weed edge and pockets which is key in catching gills and crappie in the south end.

Legend,
Where are you parking to access the NE side. Are the neighbors friendly now?
