Default New Guy Checking in. Kayak question???

Welcome,

Ive been lurking on this website for some time now and finally decided to register and post up.
I live in Glenview/Mt. Prospect area so most of my fishing takes place at local forest preserves.
I am thinking of getting a sit on-top kayak, specificaly this model:
http://www.rei.com/product/750663/wilde ... -top-kayak
It is a tandem since i would take my girlfriend with me some times, but it also converts into a single man kayak and judging from the reviews it is doing its job. Have any of you my fellow fishermen used this model ? Is it worth getting ? and what should i know about fishing off of a kayak in Illinois before i get one ?

Thank You
Peter

for that money, there are many other options if fishing is the plan. Not trying to *ahem* rock the boat... but the Pond Prowler and other 1-2 man boats of the same style are more stable when battling a big fish, not to mention netting and unhooking one. They also cost less, minus whatever propulsion you would need (battery+trolling motor).

IMO (as a new kayak owner lol) if the kayaking is the point with some fishing thrown it, it's your call alone. If fishing is the primary focus, you are better served with a 10' jon or one of these. They tend to run heavier, but can some can take a small gas motor for bigger water use:
