Default Homemade Casting Deck

I did this last year and was really worth the effort. For those of us with smaller walleye style boats the rear section usually has a pretty small casting deck, especially if you have more than 1 person back there. You also have to have your extra seats that always take up a lot of room. Saw Lund started making a folding casting deck option on some of their boats. This way you have 2 permenant seats that are always hidden and out of the way when your fishing. All you need is a piece of plywood, some cheap outdoor carpet and a few hinges. I used some 1"x1" to create a lip for the deck to rest on and 2 screw in pieces of pipe for support when the deck is folded down.

Very nice mod. Doesn't look "home made" either.

My rear casting deck is about the same as yours before the modification... Definitely something worth looking in to... Thanks for the idea... You should send it to Bassmasters or NAFC magazines... They pay for tips, or provide prize packages...

Hey there.

I used threaded metal pipes to support the deck when folded down. Just some cheap pipe I got at the local hardware store. They also have nice plastic threaded pipe in several colors that would work just as well. I could have gotten away with just one support but decided on 2. I use a plastic threaded cap to cover the 2 holes when I am not using the deck. I will show photos of what I mean.

I got the seats from a company called greatlakesskipper.com. They buy a lot of overstock from the actual manufactures so you can buy brand new OEM stuff at pretty decent prices. These seats were out of some kind of Tracker boat. You can buy the basic version of these seats at Bass Pro Shops just not as nice.

As far as the color of the carpet that was the stuff that came when we bought it new at BPS in Gurnee. Not sure if they had a different option at the time.

This mod is very easy, believe me if I can do it, anyone can.

looks good. my old crestliner had the fold down bench seat which was great. The new boat just has the casting deck. I am going to make a fold down bench sometime this summer.
