I got out to South Elgin on Saturday and had a great day of fishing.
Extra large fathead on a split shot rig with a red hook - 13 inch smallie(WITH ONE EYE!), 6 inch gren sunfish. Both of these fish were taken from a current break caused by a curve in the shoreline. Knee deep water next to very fast current. Huge quillback in fast water on the bottom.
1/16 oz jig with a chartruese pumpkin small helgie - 15 inch smallie on random water, i.e. no structure that I could see; drum, channel cat, crappie, smallie in a current break in waist deep water; white bass on rippled water; and another smallie in random water.
I fished the dam with no luck, but everyone and their mothers were catching drum with crawlers on the bottom. I worked the bridge and the flats mainly.
