Default Guv.'s Budget Speech

Whew!
Looks like we dodged a bullet (for now) regarding the merger of CPO's and the State Police. One item I did find interesting was this little nugget.....

Quote:
In addition, we're proposing a holiday from the Open Space Lands Acquisition program.

Acquiring open lands is important. Developing them is too.

But in a year when the economy is struggling - a year where you have to make tough choices, to us, we think a holiday is reasonable, and it will save us $34 million.
Remember when Ryan got us all that land out at Mazonia, for example?
People like Blago don't play that, so it wasn't unexpected.
Start knocking on Farmhouses if ya want more access, because the state isn't going to bat for you anytime soon.

Fortunately, Minooka used this grant to develop a 10 acre fishing lake this year and ,unfortunately, was planning it for additional similar grants in future years.

Don't let this fund "Take a holiday". OSLAD This grant matches local money 50/50 up $400,000.00. Many cities, villages, and park districts depend on this money to make things happen. MANY, MANY access sites have been made public, procured, and developed with these funds. We, conservationists, outdoorsmen(women), hikers, hunters, and fishermen are at the bottom of the budget food chian. We get the leftovers because we are not tangible.

The police go to budget hearings and say, "If we don't get our money, PEOPLE WILL DIE!" Firemen go to budget hearings and say, "If we don't get our money, "PEOPLE WILL DIE!" If highway funds are cut, "PEOPLE WILL DIE!" If DCFS funds are cut, "PEOPLE WILL DIE!"

If OSLAD goes on a "Holiday" the funds will never be replaced.

The threat of people dying will always be heard, while the cries of Mother Nature dying will be drowned out by the noise of the developers bulldozers and the chant "PEOPLE WILL DIE!"

Call your legislator. Write your legislator, e-mail ;your legislator, contact them any way you can. Stop the madness!

Received this from Prairie Rivers today:

DuPage board joins effort to preserve conservation grants
The Naperville Sun
By Katie Foutz
staff writer

WHEATON ? The DuPage County Board added its voice Tuesday to oppose
proposed cuts in the state budget for natural resources grants and
legislative changes to stormwater control programs.

Last week, the DuPage and Will County forest preserve districts, area
park districts and conservation groups spoke out against provisions of
Gov. Rod Blagojevich's proposed 2005 budget that would put $34 million
in natural resource grant funds "on holiday" for a year.

Environmental groups say Gov. Rod Blagojevich's proposed holiday for
land acquisition will have permanent repercussions for the state's most
unique natural areas. But they haven't given up hope that the funding
for such acquisitions will be restored.

Default some food for thought

I am certainly not happy with all the decisions that blago has made but I don't think we would be happy with any governor that had to follow the crook that just left office. He left the state in a bad way. This would be a tough term for any governor.

I agree Todd, Ryan, took a state that was operating fairly well and ran it into the gutter. Blago is gonna make some enemies no matter what he does. There's hard decisions that have to be made. I don't agree with some of his decisions but, nobody ever will.

..... And I'm a Conservative
