DuPage board joins effort to preserve conservation grants

WHEATON ? The DuPage County Board added its voice Tuesday to oppose
proposed cuts in the state budget for natural resources grants and
legislative changes to stormwater control programs.
Last week, the DuPage and Will County forest preserve districts, area
park districts and conservation groups spoke out against provisions of
Gov. Rod Blagojevich's proposed 2005 budget that would put $34 million
in natural resource grant funds "on holiday" for a year.

Environmental groups say Gov. Rod Blagojevich's proposed holiday for
land acquisition will have permanent repercussions for the state's most
unique natural areas. But they haven't given up hope that the funding
for such acquisitions will be restored.
