Yes, perch fishing is closed to anyone 16 and older for the entire month of July.

Go to member service and there is a poucher hot line to call. Give them the information and ask for a response back as to what is beening done. If they are not going to enforce the law then drop it.

I did call the hot line and they took the info down but it started pouring rain and with the kids we decided to leave. I hope they went there probably could make a fortune with the violations and who knows if they even have valid fishing licences. Just kind of tick me off good thing the bite wasnt that good but they were catching some on the horseshoe but it was pretty crowded wasnt a place where the kids could cast witout a problem.

There is nothing in the regulation that prevents you from fishing for perch in the close season. However, you cannot keep them. Here's the following excerpt from the regulation book:

A CLOSED SEASON means that fish may not be taken between the specified dates.

The context of the term "taken" in the regulation book means to keep the fish rather than catching them.

If anyone finds something differently please share it. I will still be perch fishing but just doing catch and release. My camera still has some slots left for big perch.

Happy fishing.

You're not even allowed to help your kid too much, so I know you're not supposed to be fishing for them. This applies to whether you plan on keeping them or not.

From Sun-Times...

"Fishing for yellow perch in the Illinois waters of Lake Michigan is closed to those 16 and older in July."

Just Grin & Bare it like the rest of us.

in my opinion i think thats a stupid law. i mean dont get me wrong i understand and support the whole promotion for kids fishing and whatnot, but that seems a little drastic, and besides, someone like me doesnt keep what i would catch anyways i just do it for enjoyment, and if any1 asks me what im doin i can always say "im not fishing for perch"

just my opinion tho.

Default Perch. Catch and release?

My understanding of the law was that you weren't even supposed to have a pole in your hand and fishing for perch? Whether it be catch and release or not? Correct me if I am wrong. It was created for only the children to fish, not the adults. Yes or No?
