Default Perchin a little slow today, but a bonus fish! (Pic)

Made it out yesterday with Little Jimmy and Brian on a beutiful day! Water clarity was dirty where we launched and I thought our day was going to be shot. But as we motored out on our 14 mile run to our fishing grounds the water was crystal clear. We dropped our lines and a banged a few Jumbos right away, cool lets fill the cooler boys. But after about 7 fish the bite died and we struggled for the next hour or so until we moved to completely different area about 6 miles from our original spot. Started bangin fish right away but they were smaller in size and we had to pick through to box the bigger ones.
The wind switched and picked up a little and the boat turned on us, I thought Little Jimmy caught my line as my rod almost pulled out of my hands and was completely into the water I was able to hold on by 2 fingers. I started reeling and after yelling at Jimmy WTF I realized I had a monster fish on and then thats when things got interesting. Whatever I had on was big and I wasn't sure this fish was coming back. It ran and just about spooled my tiny ultralight reel with 6lb Flouro line quickly with about 10 wraps of line left on the spool. We started to chase the fish down with the boat and about 20 minutes later we managed to net the fish that had everyone in the excited.

This 15lb King was caught with 6lb line and a Chartruese fly with Shrimp! A nice bonus fish to top off our 3 man limit of Perch! Awsome day and one we'll never forget! Thee original Perch King.... .

I was talking to the "Fishologist" when you called him to come get the pic. That's an awesome fish, must have been a blast on the perch gear. Did it jump at all? I love the way spring kings come out of the water. I was suprised how clean the water was out there. I stuck around out there and one more good wave of fish went through around 1pm but that was it as far as I could tell. I'm not sure if it was just my depthfinder picking up the signal of all other boats in the area, but there seemed to be massive amount of bait that moved through as well suspended from 20ft down to about 10 feet of the bottom. A 14 mile run sounds like it would be worth it after dealing with the zoo at E.C. when I got in the sherrif's were dropping in the their big boat and had the 2 middles piers blocked off for at least 45 minutes.

Thanks guys for the kind words....Yes Jeff it feels good to be the King! !

Yeah SS EC has been crazy and where I have been launching is private and we don't have to worry about people when we come in. That king broke the surface once and then darted right back at the boat and when my line went slack I thought I lost him but kept reeling in fast and sure enough he was still on. And I can't say anything better than having an I-Pilot on a boat! If we had an anchor out I would have most likely lost that fish, either I would have gotten completely spooled or the line would have gotten wrapped around the anchor rope. to Minn Kota for coming out with the I-Pilot!

Well with the weather were expecting for the next week or so I would think the Perch fishing is going to be pretty screwed up awhile. I can't imagine anyone even thinking of going out. Water will definately be dirty. Cancelled my vacation time....
