PB and BM nicely done. That patron was surely enjoyed while toasting a nice haul. That's the only tequila I'll buy for the house to drink straight.

Wow, that is a HUGE walleye. That is only a few ounces away from the 50 year old state record of 14lbs. 0 oz. Any thoughts of taking it somewhere to have it certified. That is a once in a lifetime fish (in Illinois). Great job!!!

Boss, maybe I'm looking in the wrong area, but isn't the Illinois state record 14.0lbs. Just wondering why you wouldn't have submitted this fish for the record? I don't know much about the process, but it would be pretty cool to have my name in the record book. :-D

See ya soon Boss, just got off the phone with the Mangler he's all hyped up and hard! He said he'll drive. I think it's better if we just start smoking them sows. I talked to Sally at the soup kitchen and she said she would love to have a few for the Sunday's luncheon. Also she would rather have those fat females though. Don't forget your cooler this time! :)28

Re: Night Time Lake Michigan Walleyes (pic heavy)
My 30" Illinois walleye caught in '07.
I never fished for them and was muskie fishing with a large black spinnerbait.
It was measured hanging vertically not flat without pinching the tail so it might have been a touch bigger.
It was released. Sorry to hijack the thread.

Either 1lb or 14lbs every Walleye goes into the cooler of death and meets the butcher! Times are tough my friend and soon my unemployment will be running out and the LINK card is just enough to support my newborn and my 6 other kids! My wife ran off with the newspaper delivery guy and never heard from her again! ....Cut'em all up!
Nice fish Taterman! That big Walleye would have tasted excellent boiled in water and lemons, I cooked a Musky that way about 2 weeks ago at our family reunion and it was the talk of the night!

Re: Night Time Lake Michigan Walleyes (pic heavy)
Poor boy when you launch are there any docks still in or how do you get in your boat without one. I have been thinking about that and except 95th I don't know where there are still launch docks in the water. I have not hit many Indiana launches so that may be different down there.

Re: Night Time Lake Michigan Walleyes (pic heavy)
Well myself, Bossman and the one and only Drillmaster (aka "The Mangler") made it out again last night and the conditions out there weren't as pleasant as earlier in the week. Heavy lake effect snow to start out with which was fine and the wind wasn't bad at the moment. So it was still kinda earlier so we decided to stop and have a midday cocktail. Had a few cocktails and a bunch of laughs! So a few hours later we dropped my luxury yacht into the fridgid water and off we went.
As we made it out to the wind had switched and the temps were in the single digits due to the wind chill. We started our run and instantly started marking, marking and more marking fish! The eyes were exactly where we left them a few days ago. After our first pass and not a fish we turned and went back through them. Nothing again WTF! By now the wind was up to at least 15-20mph and the waves were starting the white cap. We ran another set and I finally stuck one about 5lbs, not a monster but another big chunky female full of eggs, into the deathwell she goes!
About 2hrs later another fish was tossed into the deathwell about 5lbs and again a big ole female bulging with spawn inside of her with an appointment for the cutting board! The wind picked up pretty good and now boat control was a major issue so we hit a few spots on the way in and called it a night!
Here's a pic of the 2 we ended up with.....
http://i760.photobucket.com/albums/x...entpics076.jpg
We'll be back during the week to attempt to fill the deathwell and the cooler of death! Till then adios my friends.....

Re: Night Time Lake Michigan Walleyes (pic heavy)
From the looks of those pics you boys aren't cutting out the cheeks or the wings. These are some of the some of the most tastey bites, es pecially on big fat fatties like those. Keep up the good work with filling the freezer. I'd love to get on a water bite like you gentlemen are.

I love the ckeek filets but where do you get the "wings" from? Never heard of those before.

Re: Night Time Lake Michigan Walleyes (pic heavy)
First learned about wings while camping/fishing in canada two summers ago. Basically all you do is filet the pectoral fins forward up to the gills, bread, and then fry. You'll only get a bite from them, just bite down to the bone and slide, the meat off. I'll see if I can find a pic. You can also do the same with northern.

Yeah I cut out the small portions of cheek meat and fed the ferral cats that roam the trailer park at night.
