Last I knew there was awesome flathead fishing in the spillway. I'd definately bring some heavy casting tackle.

Hey Sean.....you coming out this weekend? We are either going to Lasalle, DCA, or maybe the fox river where there have been reports of someone dumping fish on the islands. Luckily, the "person" must be a pretty bad shot, as there arent that many

The spill way is a great place to bowfish! There is two places to fish one is near the dam and you will have to walk down a little ways to get out of the heavy current but we seen pleanty of rough fish coming up to the surface and when you can walk no further because of a creek you can go to the other spot which is the boat landing right off the highway near the suspension footbridge under that is a wing dam that you can bow fish off of if the water is low enough this is where we seen the most gar but be careful as the rocks are hard on tips. Near the boat landing and back in that slough we seen several carp surface.

Depending on when you go you might get medic to meet you down there if he is not working.

Have fun and let us know how you did.

We might consider a shoot down there soon too! We are getting more and more members from downstate. Just had one join up from Mt Vernon. I think we will set up a BAI south division or something. A few of the guys expressed an interest in being officers and helping run a south branch of the club. 2 members are from far S/E Ill. in Wabash Cty.

I would think again about driving all the way down to go to the spillway
in Carlyle. I was reading on another site that bowfishers have been
run off buy army corps because they say they do not allow projectiles inside the recreation area. The part of the river below the spill way on both side is recreation area. I have never shot further down the river yet so not sure what it is like. I have not shot the main lake either not sure but I know there are some big commons in there but the silvers don't stack up like they do below the dam. Hope that helps. If ya do drive down to try it might have a back up plan. Rend Lake is 40 mins down the road and is suppose to be great bowfishing. if i ever get a chance to check it out will let ya know
