Default Desplaines Backwater

I went out last evening and hit the big Desplaines backwater with the duckblinds to the west of I-55. Mostly just out exploring. I found some great looking bass water. I think I'm going to take the fishing pole along next time. There was something tearing up a school of big minnows.

Very shallow, very weedy, but full of fish. I ended with nothing in the boat. Missed a couple of easy shots, but mostly shot at fleeing fish as I pushed, pulled, and when possible trolled around. I saw one big buffalo (~15 lbs), but didn't get a shot. Next time I go to this area, I'm stripping the boat. No motors, batteries. They are useless and weigh the boat down. I'm going to have to take JP up on his offer of his old push pole.

I ran into 1QUACKER and his son. Nice to meet you.

Oh yeah. Remember to put the plug in before you back the boat in the water I had to load the boat back on the trailer to drain it.

Ed

No, that's a bad habit I already had. The backend of the boat was sitting on the bottom. I filled her up real good.

Ed, you going to the Illinois tomorrow? Let me know, I'll bring that push pole with. I plan on exploring a few promising spots I saw on the map after shooting the standby's.

If I get out tomorrow, it will only be for a couple of hours. I'll probably go to the same spot I went yesterday. It's close to home, I've seen a lot of carp and buffalo each time I've gone, and I don't have to worry about pleasure boaters. Not many speed boats in a foot of water

Good luck.

I'd love to. If I'm going to the state championship next weekend, I can't spend much time fishing this weekend.

Hey spinnerman it was nice to meet you. Ya I learned a lot that night to and I grew up in that town. First dont put the expedition spare tire in the boat..it fell out from under the expedition when I was going down the backroad-the cable that holds it up broke. Forget about the trolling motor and bring the push pole. Im on duty saturday but we are going to get out on sunday or monday. good luck.
