Default trotlines?

I have pretty limited time to fish this winter. But would love to get a trout or two for the table. Not having much luck so far at all.

Wondering if I can maximize my chances by laying down a trotline or two off a pier or in the harbors. Nothing fancy, just a single hook on a line with a bit of bait. Check it every night after work.

Near as I can tell the IL fishing rules say this should be allowed.

Any issues you guys see with this?

I think trot lines are only legal in certain rivers.. You can powerline the lake but you have to sit on it

Here's what the 2017 guide says:

Quote:
Trot, throw lines and similar devices are
unlawful on “two pole and line fishing only” areas
unless specifically authorized in the Site Specific
Regulations section of this booklet. Fish taken by
these methods must not exceed the statewide
regulations (harvest limits and length limits).
Trotlines and other legal hook and line devices
must be checked at least every 24 hours.
Lake Michigan is not split up into different areas in the site-specific regulations (and certainly isn't a 2 pole and line only area). So I think I'm OK?

Except for distance between hooks, I didn't see anything either.. The world is your oyster
