Default Baitcaster

So I have fished for a lot of years but always with a spinning rod. Long story short I had a baitcaster for 10 years and finally pulled it out. I am thinking of running Big Game 12lb green line. I have been working it with some Cajan line but it is only 8lb and I notice the top eye is bent and is damaging the line. So when I replace the rod eye I was going to replace the line to prevent a possible line snap as I don't know what all damage has been done to the line.

Is that a good line to work on learning to cast? I do ok with the Cajan but it is to light weight if I throw a frog or anything that might find some resistance.

Should I go up to 15lb line?

Pole is a 6' 6" pinnacle core rod
Reel is a Pinnacle YCZ-10

Fish mostly for bass but will take what I can get as most of us do

I am looking at getting the Abu Garcia Left Hand Retrieve Silver Max and Shimano SUCX68MH Sellus at some point as a small upgrade before I invest to much in a baitcasting setup.

As far as learning line, I'd stay away from the expensive Superlines. Also, an older rod/reel combo might not have strong enough guides and parts to handle it. I'd go with either Stren or Trilene mono in 12 - 15. Once you can cast that without much trouble, you can upgrade to a stronger and/or thinner line like Powerpro or Fireline........

Thanks for the thoughts. Yea the older rod/reel is going to have to go very soon. So seems like i might be on the right track.

OK 6' 6" MH fast rod or 7' MH fast rod? I can't decide I throw everything from frogs, crank baits, to buzz baits. Thoughts I need to order something today or tomorrow.... I am on the fence

I would go with the longer rod.
