Sorry...I'll be the first nay sayer, that does not look like a 50" fish?
Awesome fish, no doubt. My initial guess was 48", but maaaaybe it ticked 50".

That's not a 55 inch fish though.

Since it wasn't measured to help gauge the true size you can look at the head. I don't measure them regularly, but have on occasion on a big musky here and there. Of course the heads can vary in size as well and this one has a disproportionately large head. But a large - 50"-52" musky MAY measure 13"-14" at most from the tip of the nose (with mouth closed) to the edge of the gill cover. I've never taken in nor done a pike skin mount nor replica anywhere near 50 inches in nearly 20 years in business. A 46"-47" pike is a true trophy! 50" would be a very, very rare fish indeed!!!

45",50",55" IT Doesn't matter ! The memory made with pops is IT ! My grandfathers are gone, dad is gone,But we have the memories of great fish and good times outdoors together. So what if he didn't measure it or hold it out for a perfect picture,it's a great memory made,a perfect day.

That’s not a 50. Your doing the “hang down” holding it at arms length so it’s closer to the camera. I’ve landed a 44 x 32lb Northern and it was much larger than that fish. Like a previous poster said, “just another fish story”. You also wouldn’t be holding a 50+ at arms length, the fish would be in the 40+ lb range. I’ve never posted a photo of a fish or a fly that I’ve tied and I’m a Master Class fly tyer. Be humble and don’t broadcast your successes. It honors what we do.

It's alive! (Nearly 4 years later - ha!) Yes, you are correct in that the OP's estimate is a bit optimistic. But I think your "45 incher and yours was much larger" (sic) comment is off a bit too! JMO, but the OP's Pike is probably also in that range. 44"-45". I'm looking at a blank of a 44" incher right now and I'd say that is about right...

Fish is probably 94" and 120lbs by now with all the shad that have invaded the area.
