Default Delavan 5/31

Delavan report from today. Surface temp was 74*. Not real exciting. Bass bite was less than stellar. got some on senkos and the only picture worthy one was a spawned out female caught on a chatterbait with a Whopper Baits Boxing Craw trailer. Pike were hitting swimjigs short. Didn't connect with any of them but I have a deck full of paddletail trailers that no longer have paddletails Was using 1/2oz custom from Siebert with Kalins 4.8" Sizemic shad. Lastly I caught an ultralite spinning combo on a PB&J Northstar jig with a Ragecraw trailer. Shakespeare rod and Shimano reel

Some of my ants live by there.
They are fond of paddletails.

Shoulda took FishinMatt with you. From what I understand, he only catches fat largemouths and plenty of them at Delevan.

Delavan bass have been on a nose dive the last few years and this year seems to be the biggest crash. I'm actually sitting at Lakelawn right now enjoying the pool after scratching out about 10 or so bass this morning. Size and numbers are way down.

We were just discussing this on another site and I hadn't read what you posted. This sucks. Kinda saps my enthusiasm for going there this summer.

Fished it again today with my kids and we caught some really nice panfish. I caught 4 or 5 bass that were stalking the bluegill beds but normally the bass are everywhere marauding the spawning gills. My theory is the weed kills that started about 5 years ago wiped out lots of spawning areas and hurt the recruitment of younger fish. It took awhile, but it crippled the bass and pike fishery. The same thing happened to the Waupaca Chain that I vacation at up North.
