For channel cats i would fish with slip boober. I put split shot 1 feet above the hook than another one 2' off the hook. Than figure out the depth so the first split shot is dragged on the bottom.Fish in slower/ medium current they are there durring the day. I am using night crawler as a bait but cut bait or golden roaches will work too. Of course you will have a snag from time to time but i bet ill catch more catfish that way than still bottom fishing.
