place to use air rifle
I bought an air rifle about a year ago for target shooting. My town bans shooting an air rifle within city limits and I'm having a heck of a time finding a place to use it.
Anybody got any suggestions?
I'm in the northwest suburbs but am willing to drive a ways.

I have been curious about state regulations on this. Air rifles are mentioned but their use in all situations are not defined. I would like to use my trusty Sheridan to take some rabbit and squirrels. And I think my son would have interest in this as well. In some of the state parks there are skeet ranges and if not in use for skeet, why not use an air rifle?
The fun thing about air rifles is that on some models you can vary the power and be sure of your backstop. I shoot in my basement. An archery bag target backed up by 3/4 inch ply wood will stop my pellets. There are types of knockdown traps you can buy that do a good job.

you could probably shoot at the Des Plaines conservation area... they have various target ranges available.

no FOID card required
State of Illinois does not require a firearm owners ID card to buy an air rifle.

Over 700fps or so you do need a FOID. They are the only kind to have anyway.

BLU is right, you need one if over, I thought it was, 800fps. Could be wrong though.. I have a .22 caliber Crossman that is probably 35 years old. Not sure where you could go shoot.
