a lot depends on the weekend, the area and the time of the year.

my buddy and I have put in quite a few hours in on public land over the past 10 year and while its not the best option there are some good one out there.

You will get people walking past you, making noise and so on.

The good thing is that keeps the deer moving sometimes, so it actually works. Illinois Public land hunting is great. I hunted over at heid. When I started out and seen a lot of deer. Some big boys too.

I have shot with a lot of people that harvest deer regularly on public land. So go out and give it a shot. Heid is a really nice spot to hunt too. There is a lot of public land in that area for the deer to move. And anyone that has past I55 in that area will tell you there are deer on the side of the road all the time.

Sorry about that double post above...I dont know how that happened.

But I was thinking of getting out this weekend and saw on the weather forecast that it is supposed to rain all weekend. How do deer react to rain?

Its been in my experience that deer usually bed down in the rain. But a drizzle, or light rain didnt seem to effect them very much.

Although.... I did see one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen from the stand last year, late November, in a nice wintry mix of snow fluries, ice, and a little rain. I was just about ready to call it a morning (because of the weather) when big boy came into view. Never got a shot, and never saw him again.
