Default My Home Made "Mallard Machine" (pics & video)

I've been wanting to make one of these for years...

Thanks to Goosehunter9/11 (Angelo) for donating an old trolling motor to the cause. Thanks again Angelo!

For about $25 dollars I've got a awesome tool to use on calm days when the water is like glass! The retail version costs about $190.

Here's the store version:

Here's my version:

Angelo's trolling motor is 30lb thrust. The 100ft. cord is from a Malibu light system. The switch is a "Big Foot" trolling motor switch for transom mount trolling motors - about $9. (I could have saved the $9 and used the switch from the trolling motor, but decided I wanted the same switch the store bought version uses.) I ordered a "replacement hub" used with the store version from Mack's Prairie Wings - about $14. It was a perfect fit for the 3" diameter motor.

The arms are spokes from a patio umbrella frame. They had the plastic hooked ends that attach to the hub nicely just like they used to attach to the hub on the top of the umbrella frame. Just had to cut them to length and ream out the hooks a bit.

turned out great Goosepit! I have an old trolling motor that I've been wanting to turn into a MM. Might have to give it a whirl!

I think I'm going to make one too. What diameter motor fits that hub?

Kevin,
I don't know if it will work. You may have to prove it to me in Nov. But, seriously, it looks great and a heck of a lot cheaper than the store version. Hmmm I have an old minn kota laying in the back of the barn somewhere as well.

Great job Goosepit!

Just shows what one can do if you have a little time and a creative mind! Let us know how it goes, and I'm expecting some good footage of the ducks dropping from Goosepit Productions Kevin. Great video work!
