Default Taxidermist

Does anyone know of any taxidermist who are really good on waterfowl in the area? I got a real special one in North Dakota and am looking for someone good.

Well, I'm sure any taxidermist isn't going to be too keen on doing such an early season bird. But if you want one of the best waterfowl taxi's in the Chicago area, Brent Chopp in Shorewood does some really nice birds. He's especially good with waterfowl. I don't have a current number laying around. But, I'm sure if you do a search or maybe somebody here can help you with a current phone number. Mention my name and I'm SURE he'll give you a discount - lol!

Why do you say that a taxidermist wouldn't be too keen on doing such an early season bird?? Would they think it was taken out of season? He was hunting in S. Dakota which has geese seasons that open 01Sep. His S. Dakota license/stamps should be proof of legal harvest..

No, nothing to do with that. Simply stated, a later season bird makes for a better, more "full" mount. That's not to say that early season birds cannot be mounted, they're just harder to deal with. The plummage is not as full as a late season bird, lots of pin feathers and they're just easier all around to do if harvested later in the season. In my business it would be analagous to doing a Spring "Chromer" Salmon where the scales want to fall off just by looking at it - lol! Those fish can be done, but they're harder and more time consuming to do vs. a Fall Salmon...
