The various river levels shown on the NOAA site don't make sense:as of this morning, the river is 7.82 BELOW flood level at Morris, 24.61 BELOW
flood level at Marseilles, 3.18 ABOVE flood level at Starved Rock and 2.3 BELOW flood level at LaSalle. There are no dams between Starved Rock and La Salle, so where does the flood water go? (backward up the Vermillion or ??). Why does Starved Rockl show such a divergent reading compared to the other stations (maybe their gage is shot!)
Yes, the IL River (at Starved Rock) has dropped some since early this morning, however, the fact remains that all the other neaby gage stations say it has been BELOW flood stage for some time already and the SR gage still says it is ABOVE flod stage.
Go to rivergages.com and select Rock Island district. From here you can check various river levels and I find this site to be the most accurate as it run by the corp of engineers. Jim
