Default Is it me or is this website slooooooooow?

Perhaps it's my computer/internet connection/browser, but man, do the pages on this message board seem to take forever to fully load.

Is it just me or are others having this issue as well? Ever since Ed sold the site, the speed has been downhill....

Anyways... As to why the site is slow for some.

It's the ads. The site loads quickly for me, but I have a browser plugin that blocks advertisements.

The ads shown differ for some because of the advertisers tracking your preferences (yes, they are basically spying on you as you browse the web). Not everyone viewing the ads will have pages that load slow because of this difference. Some advertisers host their ads on servers that are slow to respond for whatever reason. Some ad servers are slow on Comcast, but not on AT&T, and so on, for various reasons.

What would be most helpful to the site admins is to take note of whatever ad is on the pages that load the slowest, and post that information. If there is one advertiser that is most egregious, they might decide to request that their ad provider no longer show ads from that company.

(I suspect that Progressive, or their ad provider is on the hook for most of this)

When I disable AdBlock or use a different browser, the site goes from fast to slow immediately. That's a pretty strong case for ads being the cause.

You can try using AdBlock Plus and see for yourself:

For IE:

For Firefox:

For Chrome:

For Opera (Apple):

Definitely went faster when Ad Block was added. Thanks for the advice!
