Mother I am going to keep this one in the backof my head for next season. If a few of us do a little research, we can figure out where we want to put in for a draw and split the costs for the materials for a blind and build one.

1QUACKER The blind drawings are the last weekend in July-they are listed on the IDNR website
Your blind plans do not need to be pre-approved. they are already spelled out in the site specific regulations on what your minimum size requirements and when they need to be brushed, ect,
Expect a lot of people but if you can get a group together you have a better chance
Seems like some groups do good every year no matter what.

Drakebuster Sounds good Mother. I waterfowl hunt mainly only down here in Mazonia, couple of times out in DesPlaines, depends if I know someone who drew a blind on DP though. The way they do "blind jumping" there is I would have to wait until 30 mins till shooting time to jump the blind, which doesn't leave alot of time to set a good spread before first flight.
Mazonia on the other hand, I hunted almost all season last year. I would hunt Braidwood lake, but I can't take my 14ft on that lake.

Mother I am pretty sure that most drawings are done in July. Blind plans must be submitted and approved befor being built. Unless you know someone with a blind it may be kinda tough to get on the public water. The DNR has a list of public hunting grounds listed by zone. Most of the public waterfowl hunting is by blind drawings, again done in July, for either one or two years.

There are some clubs to join. It may not be to late to get in on one of them for the year. 4th lake has one, you need your own boat.
There are some rivers that you can launch and hunt on without a dedicated blind but you are gonna need permission to set up on shore or a boat and blind.

I think that some of us waterfowlers here on CLF need to get together next year and put in for a draw and build a blind. I don't mind driving for good hunting. I have a small boat and motor just good enough for one or two guys, gear, and dog(s).
