Re: New to the Mississippi
First time there but I would say it was high because I saw a picnic table in the water.

Ya, mainly used nightcrawlers are on the bottom. Used a softshell every now and then but couldn't seem to get it out far enough; same thing with livers.

Re: New to the Mississippi
Report:
Caught a few drums (8-10 inches), 1 channel cat (12 inches) and 1 flathead (14 inches).
Most remarkable catch was the flathead. The flathead broke someone else's mono line at some point in time and my g/f somehow tangled her line with that broken mono line and ended up reeling the flathead in without actually hooking the fish. Odd and spectacular. No one was catching anything amazing. Most catches were drums around 8-12 inches.

Re: New to the Mississippi
Should I be using raw or cooked shrimp? jumbo or regular sized shrimps to fish for sheepshead? You should meet us out there ja-knee-sea. =D Oh, and fiddler crabs? Can they even be caught in Chicago?

Re: New to the Mississippi
The dam is by Clinton Iowa and the pool is above that, towards Savannah... Spring Lake is part of pool 13... I haven't fished out that way in a couple 10 years, but I doubt that they moved it...

New to the Mississippi
I am going to the Mississippi River this weekend to Lock & Dam 13. Any pointers? Is it usually packed on July 4th weekend? I have been backtracking on some posts and I'm assuming that pool 13 is the same as lock & dam 13.
