JCbankangler 13 lbs 1 oz still state record today. When I found about about it and a few years later I went to fish same lake. Yes, I went into a large hole and fish but I don't catch anything. We can't fish there today but I felt that 13 lbs 1 oz might be other lake!
12 lbs 8 oz was old state record from Lake Carlinville. Few years ago 12 lbs 4 oz from Glenn Shoal Lake near Litchfield. 11 lbs 12 oz (?) from Lake of Eqypt about 10 years ago. Best chance would be southern Illinois lakes with little fishing pressure with plenty of shad, shiners, minnows and panfish. Lake of Egypt, Little Grassy and Devil's Kitchen is top big bass lake. Need plenty of shallow with covers for extra safe, more food as frogs, crayfish, etc. I wish to own large farmpond that have plenty of shallow, covers and drop off to 25 feet deep hole with shad, shiners, minnows and stunt bluegills and remove some smaller bass and left 18 inch plus in lake! Shad in lake is not good for big bluegills but good for big bass! Catch 6 lbs bass is easier if you are serious reseacher and know where to look for them. Release 5 lbs plus is good for future. Best big bass is right now until middle of May! Also October and November is good, too.
One pound bluegill is more rare than 6 lbs bass!
