We did some shore fishing at the spillway reecently. The water is still flowing over the top of the spillway but the water level is falling slowly. We fished 1/32 oz jigs tipped with glo ez plastics rigged about 18 inches below a small bobber. We caught a lot bluegills, some bass, a few crappies, two dogfish and a lone perch. A heron was fishing by us and was catching some bluegills too. The gills should be spawning real soon. See ya on the water!

Onalaska Spillway fishing report, Onalaska, WI

The spillway opened to fishing recently but the high water made fishing a little tricky. Water is flowing over the entire spillway and a pair of rubber boots are needed to access many shore fishing spots. We observed some northern pike trying to swim up and over the spillway but can't quite make it over the top.We fished out of our canoe and got into some nice crappies and a few perchkys also. A double rig with some 1/32 oz jigs tipped with glo ez original plastic worms was working for us. An orange worm was getting the most bites in the dirty water. The river is going to up for awhile and the bite should be good for a few weeks with the bluegills also starting to show up in numbers.
