Well I actually wanted to canoe down the river as well..

Never give up on a river in high water, it can produce excellent fishing when everyone else just figures it's washed out. Bass and other fish move into the shallows and hug the shore, where the rising water creates a buffet of worms and bugs that have nowhere to go. I just read an article about how the anglers in KY and TN are really doing well in freshly-flooded brush and timber. Think of it less as a flooded river, and more like a new restaurant opening for the fishies. They will line up to sample the buffet. Catfish and carp especially can pick up during high water times. Not sure how it will affect wallys and pike, though.
