Re: July Shabbona State Park Camping Questions

Seeing that the Shab SP is only allowing walk-in camping at this time, do you guys happen to know what my chances are of getting a camping spot this Saturday night?

Heading to Mendota on Friday and was thinking about swinging up to Shab for a one night camping trip before coming back home. I'll call them of course, but just wanted to know if you guys had any comments.

Thanks!

Re: July Shabbona State Park Camping Questions

Thanks for your responses UFCreel and hookthis. The friends I fish with live in Aurora and we sat down and figured we're only 45 minutes from Shabbona from one of their houses. Sounds like camping in the basement and beers round the TV for Shabbona fishing for me. Still might come out and camp though. Thanks for pointing out that I was assuming correctly; just don't wanna assume and be wrong.

Re: July Shabbona State Park Camping Questions

You'd have to check with them about the boat, it's probably not a problem but it helps to make sure. DNR is on extra alert for anything related to alcohol, especially this weekend, and they pride themselves on tossing people at Shabs, even for beer.

Tent sites have electric, water is a walk. If your friend is camping, he can bring your stuff early.

You seem to ask the right questions so i'm sure you know the answers. Be careful. And don't feed the coons. Lol. Don't worry they help themselves at Shabbona.

July Shabbona State Park Camping Questions

Hey all! I have to say I really like this forum. I'm getting into fishing agian after a 20 year break and want to hit the action at Shabbona in the coming month.

My questions are all around camping at the State Park campground so I'll just let 'em fly and see what you all can help me with:

Does the campground fill up during the hot month of July as quickly as it does in the spring months?

I work IN Chcago and live in Naperville. By the time I got to the campground on a Friday night it would be after 8PM. Should I have a friend go set up my site eariler in the day?

Anyone know if we can launch boats from the camp ground? (an inflatable and a non-trailered jon-boat)

How "present" is the staff at night to enforce the no alcohol rule? (assuming we are adults AND will act as such...which we would but do enjoy beers around the fire at night)

Do the tent sites (if there are specific tent sites) have water and electric?

That's all that comes out in this stream of consciousness. Feel free to adlib and suggest things I may have forgotten about.
