Awesome smallie man. Beautiful colors is right. Something about the pattern on a nice dark bronzeback. It is truly one of the most beautiful things in the outdoors, right along with the colors of a rooster pheasant and the sun rise on a clear morning. IMO

3-30-13 Report

Hit the river yesterday for a few hours on the kayak, water is slightly stained (visibilty just over a 1') and surface temps were around 50. I'm a bit skeptical about the water temp as I just picked up a new digital thermometer and 50 seems warm, I should probably verify it with a mercury type.

Anyways, missed a couple bites on the kayak, mainly throwing 1/4oz jig with a 4" salt/pepper grub and a texas rigged craw from power team lures (really liking this bait). Also threw some cranks and spinners but grew tired of battling snags, I decided to go back to jigs and craw baits. The first couple trips to the river are a learning experience as the submerged structure always changes over the winter.

Fishing from the kayak was a bust but I did manage my first fish of the year prior to launching...a nice smallie at 3lbs even. It hit the texas rigged craw bouncing off the botttom tight to structure. I was optimistic for the day but I should have known, a nice fish within the first couple casts often ends up being the only fish.

It should really pick up in the next couple weeks, forecasts are looking good!
