pier guy
types of fish at Liberty?

I worked with the park district to build the new pier at Liberty. The next step is to come up with an information sign and one of the ideas was to show they types of fish in the pond. Those of you that have fished the pond, what are you catching?

Thanks

Bass PharmD Yes, liberty is the junior high, the pond is just east of the school.

KillerKowalski Correct. Only one library and it's the one on Veteran Pkwy.

Jhoffmann31 Just moved to New Lenox, I live in Blue Stone Bay. Anyways I was reading your comments and where is the New Lenox Library and Liberty? The only library I seen is on veteran pkwy and for Liberty are you taking near the middle school?

Bass PharmD Yesterday I was able to catch three 3 pounders in under a hour at a small pond by Liberty. All on the windy side.

CHIDJM Pics didn't come through?

That weedline presents a problem for most ponds in NL, in my experience. Try weedless jigs, weedless worms, and weedless frogs. Also, castiing far beyond the weeds line can turn results.

Report for New Lenox for the past week

So I finally have gotten some fishing in and have been hitting the ponds up near my house.

As it stands the best fishing I have found so far is a little retention pond near the New Lenox Library. Its the cleanest and I have pulled some decent Largies out of it. I have ran Spinners, buzz, top water, night crawlers with a float and went both mornings as well as at night.

I also went to Round Barn Farm in Manhatten, Kohlhagen Park, a small pond off of school house and a few other smaller ponds and they all have the same common problem, they are overgrown. Each is anywhere from 5 to 15 feet of muck off the coast all the way around that is to the top of the water line or with in an inch which makes it very hard to fish. I did get lucky enough to catch a small large mouth and a bluegill at Kohlagen but I also spent a few hours in the morning there basically only catching bug bites and muck.

At the New Lenox library I have had the best luck with medium to large spinners, white or chartreuse in color. The best ones I have found are oddly enough, the 1 dollar spinners from walmart with the single tail spinner.

These are two of the better largies I caught the last few days...
