Polish Joe Indiana gets the Lions share of the blame channeling the river in the 1800s. Although recent development in the last 30 years along the river is probably just as much to blame. Erosion from development close to the river. The agricultural industry knocking down trees an tilling up buffer strip to maximize acres. As well as far less marsh an Swamp ground to act as a filter are all contributing factors.

dacas1 Where is all this sand coming from?

Stonecat The better days of the Kankakee are behind it. The sand is just incredible. Another 5-10 years all you'll need is a net and a volleyball to play in the sand.

8 24 report

Fished the old dam in aroma park last evening. 6:00 to 8:30. Started off throwing a white rooster tail, but the heavy current made it difficult so I switched to a white quarter ounce jig an 3 inch twister tail also white. I landed 1 smallmouth about 12 inches. And a chunky rock bass that was maybe 10 inches an pushing a pound. My fishing partner managed two smallmouth as well. Both about 13 inches. Been years since I've waded this stretch an the sand has really done a number. Pools that used to be 4 feet are now 2. Always used to be a good numbers spot but it was tough sledding yesterday. Fish were scattered with some in riffles an some in slack water.
