hipster78 A good way to fill the freezer with minimal trips. Never got enough ice to fish some of the larger lakes that are local. This trip it did not matter what we used, filled the otter sled with around 180 between three of us.

Superfluke Glad it's almost over, just not much of a challenge. Freezer is full. Ready for some real fishing.

Fonzie .

Fished Pistakee today. Was on the ice and fishing by 6:00am. The bite was hot. The crappie cooperated in the early, early, morning, then it was a crappie here and there until I left at 2:00pm.

Here is a pic I took of my graph in the morning. No, the marks are not sheepshead

I had the most success using a tiny tungsten jig, maybe 4 or 5mm? tipped with a tiny piece of redworm. You had to select the absolute smallest worm you could find. Then pinch off maybe, at most a 3/8" piece and thread it on perfectly so it would hang nice. If the worm was even a little bit "bunched" on the hook you would not get bit.

Here is a photo of a small redworm, You want it this size or smaller

I measured 11" of solid, clear ice in the 12'-14' range. I spent maybe 30 minutes or so at 18' and the ice was a solid 9"-10"
This warm-up spells the last of ice fishing this year {at least for me}...

All things considered, I should have been fishing by 5:00am. If I were to head to Pistakee in the next few days, I would fish at night/evening.

Been out twice on the pits this year. Last weekend the crappie we caught were out over deeper water. Suspended in 30-55fow.
