CatInTheBag There are many, many Hellgramites in the river.

In the last few weeks, I have been using the Arkie Helgie jig with literally dozens of Bass C&R.

When the water gets down in the mid 40s I will throw them. Personally I don't enjoy throwing plastics, it slows me down. This time of year I would rather cover more water and pick off the active fish than sit on one area and pick it apart. I fished for two hours in northern Michigan over the weekend and caught an 18" and 20"er, only bites I had.

Polish Joe I've been catfishing. My 6 and 9 year old have been more eager than ever to join me on my fishing trips. The result has been lots of pan fishing and catfish action. It's a lot easier to dead stick than chunk baits at there age. They also enjoy gathering bait for catfish so it's a win win.

hipster78 With conditions the way they are right now, I wouldn't even carry any plastics.

Anyone been catfishing?? I'm thinking this weekend.

Polish Joe Hellgramites and crayfish imitation baits are better in very low water conditions come late summer. As hipster alluded to earlier in the post right now is search bait season. I waded Friday Saturday and sunday. Fish were fussy but I managed a couple every outing. I threw in line spinners and a jointed rapala. I also managed a couple off top waters around dusk. Most were ho hum smallies. The highlight of the weekend was a 25 inch walleye. The biggest smallie might have went 16. Remember think search baits. I opted fishing lures with treble hooks after having a lot of short strikes and missed swipes off a jig n twister earlier in the week.

First Light Well I did see one under one of the two rocks I turned over last week. So I believe they are still a primary food source.

Pompousfish7 The reason i ask is thats all i used to catch them on. Case hellgrammites. Now i go to the state park every now and them and i end up not catching anything with them

Pompousfish7 I have been reading that case hellgrammites dont work that well anymore.
Is this true. From my reading many people depleted the hellgrammite population and smallmouth dont recognize them anymore is this true? I can't imagine all the hellgrammites being gone

First Light Had to cover a lot of water today go this guy which hammered the streame on the swing. Great fight in the heavy current he was in. Yes they seem to be very scattered. Did not try top water yet. Where are all the juvnile bass? Not caught one n a while.
