ffishman There still are good people out there. Some years back, I had engine problems up in northern Mn. I put the boat on the trailer and went to town. Found a place. He said he was pretty busy. I explained I was only up there for a week vacation. He said, no problem. He fixed it and I had it back the next day, plenty of time to save the remainder of vacation.

Fonzie I never did the trailer repair. Family stuff always got in the way...

The real reason I'm posting is this. There was a late minute addition to our trip that required me to use my secondary tow vehicle for the vacation {against my better judgment}. Everything went well the whole trip, except for the last day.
As we were leaving the VRBO, I noticed that both my van tail lights and also my trailer lights were acting funky. At times, all I had was running lights and flashers.

I didn't feel safe driving all the way home with my flashers on, and of course
trying to find a mechanic open in Hayward on a Saturday morning was impossible.

So on a random suggestion from a guy at the Hayward NAPA, I looked for Smiley's Auto Repair in Earl WI.
So, off we went, and soon I pull up to Smiley's and I see parts of boats, trailers, cars, etc. etc. strewn everywhere {a good sign}.
I was hoping that the mechanic would be around.
His wife walked out and after I described my problem, she said "no problem, I'll go find him" .

To make a long story short,he fiddled with the wiring harnesses of my car for around 30 minutes or so and got me back on the road with a temporary fix.

When I asked what I owed. He said how about $15...
Yes, $15...
Of course, I paid him more.

Put Smiley's Auto Repair in your phone just in case. He is on rt.63 just North of rt.53
I was **** fortunate to run into such a nice guy in this day and age.

ja-knee-sea Link Brothers Recreation in Minong.. About 20 miles west of Hayward.. Biggest marine dealer in that area.. You can run out to my cabin on Lake Gilmore to see if it fell over after the flood

Kodiak Earls marine service (715) 634-2743. They have been around forever. Donna took over for her husband when he passed. Haven't visited in about 10 years but they are still there. My wife lived her teen years across the street.

Fonzie I thought the exact same thing as you...

It's just I don't want to remove/disconnect all the valuables I have in my boat before I drop it off locally.

I am still waffling a bit about it which approach is best.

ffishman If it were me, I would have it done around here before you go. There are places that do that kind of work. The best thing if a problem develops later, its a lot easier to go back to a local place and have the fix it.

Hayward WI trailer repair

Soon, I will be in the Hayward area for a week.

Since my boat will be off the trailer for a while, I was thinking of getting some preventive maintenance performed on it.

I would like to replace the bunks with synthetic boards, maybe get a self centering keel roller put on. Stuff like that.

Does anyone know of a reputable trailer guy in the Hayward area ?
