With the first reports now coming in of black morels being found in southern Illinois, we should see our first few morels in Chicago in about 2-3 weeks. The weather decides exactly when...

:oops: I'm jealous... I wish I knew more about finding & picking wild mushrooms. For now, I have to rely on the ole "shrooms in a box" kits to satisfy my needs :roll:

I've had a few of those kits myself, they're a lot of fun. You might want to try some of the other kits available. I've been looking to try the pom-pom (hericium) kits from field and forest products up in Peshtigo Wi. The mushroom has a texture and flavor of crab meat, slightly sweet and mild.

Thanks... I'll give 'um a try! I heard the same about oysters.

Blu... I'm gonna bring some fresh ones down to the camp with us ;)
