i flyfish for smallies now but am looking to move to carp.
what kind of set-up would be ideal for carp on the fly? 7wt 8wt 9wt 10wt?
what do they hit on besides wolly buggers?
where are some good places to go to catch they in chicago?

thanks

hey moosefly. the one you are looking for on this topic would be Joe D. he has had good success on the cook county lakes. do a search for his posts or maybe pm him.

I've stuck with 7 wt outfits, get ready to tighten the drag, palm the reel, and you'll be fine. A lot of guys fish lighter outfits, but they are a blast on a 7wt (and it still has enough back bone to beach them).

I've primarily fished beadhead woolybuggers, but I've caught them on Clouser Swimming Nymphs as well (little bit harder to see the take)

Also, check out the book Carp on the Fly by Barry Reynolds.
