I was killing some time driving around the area northeast of coal city and marveling at all the beautifull strip mine lakes in the area. however all were heavily posted with private property/no tresspassing signs. does anyone know of any of these lakes that are open to the public?

I'm not sure if any are open, but I was at one with a friend who works road construction. He had a key to get thru the gate, and one Saturday morning, we we're going bass crazy. The same day, I was wading up to about my waist and had about 200 bluegills swimming all around me. It was unbelieveable.

My advice...find someone who has a key or clearance to get in. You will not be disappointed.

These lakes are usually all private clubs. Very good fishing if you know someone to get you in.Try down in Braidwood at Mazonia state park.
