I was wondering if someone can give me information on the duck hunting at Mazonia. I usually hunt at Des Plaines but have heard that the hunting on the newer South portion is supposed to be pretty good. Was this a private club at one time? Is the hunting better than the older Mazonia area? Thanks for giving me any information you may have.

South Unit is the former Ponderosa Hunt/Fish Club combined with land in the Wilderness section west of the access road that was formerly leased long-term by the South Wilmington Club. Can't say if its better than North unit. Heard Ponderosa is very good. Monster is no hunt refuge left open to fishing beyond normal closure until ice-up.

Stop at the check station one fall day to try for pheasant hunting. It wasn't open for that but duck hunting was open and all the blinds were open. No one were intrested to hunt that day (for ducks) and watch guys say the fishing is open and we could go out for fishing! So late in the seasong (almost closing for the small game hunting)we got a change to hunt for pheasant and we didn't see any at all (or any ducks). Iam not sure how the duck hunting year by year's report is for those lakes north or south
