I had a few hours to kill yesterday do I stopped by a creekmouth on the Fox hoping to stir up an early spring Pike or even a Walleye. No takers on the big red/white bunny leech, but I kept see carp cruising around. I switched over to a bonefish-type fly called a "Crazy Carper" and had at it. When the wind would die down, I would catch a glimse of some capr swimming by - they were at least 24+ inches.
I finally got a strike, and I strip-set the hook, and this fish was all power! As soon as I put pressure on the rod, he snapped by 6 lb tippet like it wasn't even there. That was a big fish!
The sun started dropping and it cooled off, sending the carp to warmer waters, but it was nice to get out with a fly rod in hand.
I saw male and female loons swimming and diving, and heard them calling like it was a Minnesota lake. Herons flying low and Sandhill Cranes way up high. I even had a mink walk up with 3 feet of me before he realized I was there, then he scurried away to safety.
