My buddies and I are looking to take a fishing trip into wisconsin. I'm looking for any suggestions or past experiences. This is what we are looking for:

-We're all college kids so the cheaper the better (we dont need any nice lodging but 4 walls and a bed would be nice)

-Body of water that is "user-friendly" We don't want to spend the entire trip just trying to figure out the fishing patterns and where the fish are hiding. Prob not going to hire a guide unless necessary

-Looking for pike and walleye but in case those arent biting then we would like the lake to still have good bass fishing

-We would like to make a 3 day weekend out of it so not anywhere to far north (prob within 4-5 hours of west burbs)

-We will need to rent a boat

All in all we are just looking for a good weekend of fun and fishing, we are not looking to have the fishing trip of a lifetime.

Any help would be great guys. I figured the best place to ask around would be here. Thanks in advance and PM me or send links if it is easier.

Stay at a hotel/ motel in lake geneva or lake delavan. in downtown lake geneva you can rent boats. actually i caught a 30 inch pike on the rivera docks (right next to downtown lake geneva) Its like a marina w/ shops and ect literally on the dock

If it were me, I would check out the Fremont area, or Crivitis area.

The flambeau flowage in northern wi has what you want. I know JD stays at a good place up there, I have stayed at www.deadhorselodge.com and enjoy my stay there.

Madison Wisconsin area

You may want to give lake Wisconsin a try just north of Madison 2 1/2 hours. They have boats for rent at the Okee bridge along with several options for cabins/motels along with good food next door and a bait shop. Fishing is very good too. Musky, Northern, Bass, Walleye, Sauger, White Bass and good Crappie fishing. Get a fishing hot spots map which marks areas that generally produce and save the price of a guide.

/iagree Lake Wisconsin is very user friendly. You can stay at the Bridge Motel in Okee and the bait shop and resturant are next door. If you rent a boat, the bridgew has docks also.

lake geneva is 1 1/2 away from southwest subs and there are tons on motels and hotels, and its extremely easy to rent a boat,
Fishing advice: take a sinker with a worm at about 15 feet on a drop off and you catch bass after bass and just chuck out some suckers deeper for pike

but possible :-D

If you're on a budget, don't stay at a motel then rent a boat. Northern Wisconsin is loaded with resort cabins that sleep 4 and rent out at prices similar to motels. The good part is that most of them come with a boat (tho you may have to rent a motor) they are right on the lake and they have kitchens so you can cook your own food and save the expense of eating out. Do a google search for Eagle River Wisconsin fishing resorts and you'll have lot's of choices. The Eagle River chain of lakes has lots of good fishing and places to stay.

You should check out Pickeral lake in St Germain Wisconsin. A place called Loons Landing. They have a website. Very reasonable prices. This is a very easy lake to fish . It is only 750 acres. It has very few homes on it and only 2 resorts. Walleye and muskie are in the lake but in low numbers. Find the old logging road that leads into the lake. there is a rock pile about 20 feet out from shore. jig and minnow will catch you some eyes.This lake has a huge number of pike in it. You will get sick of catching them. Fish the river mouth with Mepps number 3. Also great bass fishing. Try the northwest and southwest sides of the lake. I have caught some huge smallmouth out of here. If you get sick of catching bass and pike you can always switch to panfish. This lake is home to some HUGE crappie. This place is 5 minutes from town and 30 minutes from the casino. What more can you ask for? 2
