Heidecke report; 4/29/02

Hit the lake around ten with a yellow flag and thick clouds. Air temp about 50, water temp at 52 on the depth finder. Winds generally out of the West putting quite a chop on the water. Mostly threw or trolled crankbaits along rip-rap all day; North and South sides, but did better on the South. Caught good sized fish, but not big numbers. Got two legal walleye, kept the 20 incher, but put the 25” mama back (16” girth laden with eggs). Managed a couple of nice smallies and a 30” husky musky that hit a fire-tiger pattern. Also boated a huge carp that was as long as my arm (over 30”). The sun came out around noon and started to warm the water which got up to 57 degrees by 7:30 p.m. when we pulled out of there. Bridge depth marker: water at bottom of yellow, but no green showing. Shad imitations in natural colors was the ticket on all 3 walleye we caught. I did drag a night crawler around most of the day on a spinner rig, but didn’t pick up anything on it; usually good for a few fish, but not today. All in all not a bad day.
