My boss put me in charge of assembling a Charter trip on the big lake. I do my fishing out of Ludington MI on the weekends and haven't been out of Chicago in a long time. Could anyone possibly recomend a good Charter Captain out of Chicago? Also I would like to pinpoint an optimal time of the year for catching instead of fishing. I know coho are good now but I wouldn't mind hooking a king or two. I heard late June or early July is good. Thanks for the help

If this is considered advertising pull the trigger, just trying to answer the question.

The later the season the bigger the fish. Right now through May the coho fishing is excellent and they taste great but average is small 1 1/2 to 5 lbs. As the season moves on the fish go deeper and get bigger 15 to 25 lbs, I believe that the fishing is better North of the city and the run to fish is shorter due to it getting deeper faster from about Glenco to the state line. Big kings are starting in September and again I've had my best luck North. As a rule of thumb in spring you fish south and by the end of the season north. These locations are about 40 to 60 minutes North of the city, it's worth the extra drive.

If you can get him your best bet is Chip Porter. If you haven't heard of him he still charters at the same rate as the others but is one hell of a Great Lakes fishermen. He's at least worth a call if you want to fish with a given pro.

I didn't think PM worked with an Anonymous post.
