HELP!

1153 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  hgmeyer
.....I am taking out my boat for the first time tomorrow. Supposed to be nice out, hoping to get into some fish! Anyway, I have all my title and registration info but i wanted to check with you guys to see what is needed in terms of 'safety' requirements?

I know i need a PFD for anyone with me, and me. Horn, Fire extinguisher, lights, etc. I'm wondering what else i need to keep on the boat, but hopefully never have to use, in case i get stopped and checked.

any help would be great, i checked the DNR site but couldnt find any listing.

thanks guys!

I'm sure with a little internet research you could look up the US Coast Guard and find a listing of what you need.
IF I remember correctly you need a PFD for everyone on board, a fire extinguisher, a throw able flotation device (seat cushion) and a whistle. That is what I need on my 20' boat.
Most importantly, what you need is to extend an invite to your buddy.
Depending on where you are fishing there are also other things to consider. If you plan on taking your boat on the big pond, I would suggest a marine radio and flares. Also a good idea to have an extra set of plugs, prop (TM and outboard), and a spare set of keys. Strange things happen on the water and it stinks to have a trip ruined when small preperations could have been made in advance to prevent them.
