Light line like 2 or 4 lbs line, small float and small hook like size 10 or 12! Maggots is good but not easy to get so redworms is fine! Some people like to stay one spot all day but not me! I like walk around and fish anything like around weeds, log, rocks, etc! You will catch lot of bluegills, some bass, anything!
Bring extra line and never know big carp or bass might pull and you have only 10 ft pole and broke line!
If you serious to be match angler then join the club and learn also find out where they get maggots, equipments, etc!
Chicagoland bank angler is good club to start!
I retired! My time is limited so I fish for big fish now!
