Lemont Quarries (Heritage Park) and Bass Fishing questions.

I have a few questions about the Lemont Quarries.

1. To start off, I know there are like 6 of the quarries..which ones can you drop a boat in? Also, which one would be the best to fish?

2. Is top watewatert, Rapala and Sluggos a good choice for largemouth? Im assuming in weedy shaded areas?

3. Has anyone had any recent luck at the quarries lately?

4. Is mid July still a good time to go bass fishing?

I've only ice fished the quarries, but there is an anemic boat launch at the furthest quarry down (road dead end there). Careful because there is a very steep drop off. I guess if you could port a boat in, the first (and biggest quarry) may be a good spot, especially in the current area. The few times I was in the area open water fishing I can't remember if I ever saw a boat in there. I think it is legal? Again, really no way to get in there unless you port a boat in.

There are 2 quarries on the other side of the I & M. The smaller one is Ice Box, the larger one is unnamed? There used to be a guy that claimed he owned the quarry and would chase people off. No idea if he does or not.

Can't help you on the bass angle, sorry.

Wait,

what?
You can drop a boat into the first quarry ( with the chemical plant on west side ( Consumers Quarry ) You can also drop in on the last Quarry ( With island ( Great Lakes quarry) The Middle quarry ( north of I& M canal ) is called cat ladies , Hard to get a boat in without taking a bath , I have been in a belly boat there. North of cat ladies quarry is another lake refered to as ice box. Its well hidden and not easily accesable, However some good fish are in there as well , I caught a nice 5 pounder on cat lady's a couple weeks back , have a pic but cant seem to post it here, ( User Friendly application ? ) I think not ..

The real clear quarry south of the I& M is called Amatos quarry , there is a house there , HAVE HAD SOME GOOD ACTION ON THE WEST END AMID THE FALLEN TREES.

DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE I&M CANAL THERE. I have caught huge bass in the canal there, over the years

There is another quarry to the east of Amatos , Have not fished it for a while , I say it's overdue for a visit.

i have kayaked all the quarries in lemont. the firts big one is clear and while kayaking i saw some GAINTS swimming in about 8 feet of water, where the pipe is at towards the plant, but could not hook up. had better luck with the quarries on the other side of the I & m.
Been wanting to go there with float tubing, maybe one day do one.
I've had my bass raider on the very clear one with the house. No troubles and I've heard from the police that it was fine to be on it. HUGE fish in there, hard to catch though.
fishing

I have fished the lemont Quarries about 20 times this summer. here is what I have caught. lots and lots of small bluegill. crappie numbers are good but fish on small size for the most part some nice ones. bass are the most targeted fish in these lakes. as a result of this the larger fish 'over 15 inches' have been thinned out. bass numbers are o.k. lots of smaller fish. largest I caught is 18 inches. you will also catch a northern pike from time to t[me. bullheads and carp are present also not in large numbers. no catfish I know of in lakes. take note shore fishing is limited due to the nature of the rocky rugged shoreline. not recommended for young children and handicapped people except for a few areas. overall I would rate theses lakes slightly better than cook county preserve lakes. good luck wally-world

The bucket people have pretty well destroyed that place with their trash and raping of the lakes.

But, a very, and I mean VERY, astute and motivated angler can still catch a nice bass from time to time.

Consumers has huge schools of shad that run the shorelines. That's all I'm sayin'....
got down there with my brother in law this week... pulled in a bunch of large bluegill... hand size but real fat... got one solid bite on a xcaliber crankbait but other than that no bass showed up in the boat.... this was tuesday.... the lack of any activity on the surface at sunrise was definitely surprising.
