Took a trip to the Root on Saturday. Thought with winds whipping up my Chicago spots I'd take in some combat fishing. Surprised to find lots of open water away from the fly fishers. Found two slack water areas holding fish and no fishermen. Spent a couple hours working spawn and jig waxworm combos over these spots. Managed 3 hookups and a handful of smolts. Did end the evening sharing a spot with a fellow float fisherman who on his announced last drift caught a nice brown. It was slower than full peak, water was low and clear, fish numbers seemed a little low and the usual spots crowded, but all in all a nice day. Look for this weeks rising temps and rain forecast for Thursday to push fresh fish.
