May has always been the best month for me when it comes to both Walleye and Pike at Mallard. I have yet to get a really big Walleye from Mallard so far, 20 inches is my best, but I have gotten them in decent numbers during May. Small Rapalas in the silver/black pattern #5 or #7 worked around the point will get you walleye especially in the morning. As far as Pike, I caught my largest Mallard Pike last May off of the east pier using a 2 inch fathead under a slip float about 5-6 feet down. The fish measured in at 35.5 inches and was quite fat. I still to this day have no idea how I landed this fish. 6# test with no leader, go figure. Butanyway, fish Mallard in May and you will get Northern and Walleye.
