I have had success with the 2" mini mites fishing for gills and crappies with a waxie or a piece of crawler under a bobber.

 

been using minnows below the st.charles and geneva dam for years and bought some mini mites, white- chartuse-gray lots of different colors. My question is with the minnows 4lb. line and a gold hook, lots of fish. Do I fish the Mites under a slip bobber or just on the end of line and with or without a minnow on it.

terry as fishjamm mentioned a waxie or a little piece of worm helps. However if you don't have any bait, keep the mini mite moving, even a foot at a time and pause.
